Forming the First Organization of International Students under Taiwan law

Dear fellow students and friends,

Until today in Taiwan, there is no organization for international students that has been formed in a legal manner.

I personally think that we could be able to use this vacuum, not only for our benefit, or the benefit of future international students but also for the benefit of Taiwanese students wanting to internationalize and go abroad for their studies.

The general benefit of forming a legal and organization will not only give us an official status, but will also give us the opportunity to apply for government and nongovernment sponsorships. Furthermore such an organization will give us the ability to speak out loud, and to be heard in an official manner. I will be introducing further information to this topic at the internationalization meeting, as well as in the Ph.D. and IMBA councils.

This organization should not be biased by either an university, nor by a single political movement. It should rather be an organization whose primary goal is to help international students accommodate themselves in Taiwan and in a second step can help Taiwanese students through its network to study at universities abroad. For example in the United States or in Europe.

A close friend of mine, also an alumni of NCKU and with good connections to government officials has offered for her help on this account.

I look forward to hearing any suggestions or comments, and I do hope that such an organization can be a benefit for us all.

Thank you for your time and for your comments,

Thomas

Vice President of the Ph.D. students Association
