Tainan, Aug. 1 (CNA) Nine hotels in the southern Taiwan city of Tainan
signed an agreement Friday to join an earth-friendly program that gives
up to 55 percent discounts to customers who bring their own towels,
tooth brushes, soap, toothpaste and shampoo.

The program was presented with the blessing of the Environmental Protection Bureau under the Tainan City government.

The nine hotels are Evergreen Plaza Hotel, Tayih Landis Hotel, La Plaza
hotel, Hotel Tainan, Hotel Dynasty Tainan, the Taipung Suites, Wei-Yat
Toong Mao Grand Hotel, Cambridge Hotel, and Top Royal Hotel.

The Evergreen Plaza Hotel, one of two five-star hotels in Tainan,
pledged to lower the price for a single room from NT$5,600 to NT$2,599
and the price for a double room from NT$6,200 to NT$2,799, if customers
bring their own personal hygiene necessities.

The Wei-Yat
Toong Mao Grand Hotel also offered to reduce the price for two from
NT$4,800 to NT$2,188, if the same requirement is met.

Officials at the Environmental Protection Bureau noted that some of the
hotels had already offered the earth-friendly program for some time,
and that the agreement they signed was intended to increase awareness
among the public to join the world's efforts to slow the global warming
trend. (By Han Nai-kuo)
