New feature BETA - Group task management at INCKU
Following up on a suggestion that some of the groups really need to start addressing their collaborative task management issue , I went ahead and implemented such a system in INCKU.
Essentially, it's called "Case tracker " where any group can start and manage their own Projects, while each Project can have an unlimited number of Cases (/tasks). Cases can be prioritized (1 highest, 5 lowest), assigned to users who are registered in INCKU, and updated by those assigned to the task by adding a comment and selecting a new status. Anybody in that group can comment on the projects and cases and can get email and RSS updates on the progress. It's also possible to see a full report on all the Cases of a specific Project.
Not easy, I KNOW.
It is, I must admit, one of the more advanced features of the website, which is slowly becoming one of the most complex sites I've done, and so it might not be intuitive to use for those who haven't done something like this before. Most are probably unaware that this is a system similar to ones used by world-wide programmers for doing open-source (Linux, Wikipedia etc.).
I would be happy if any of you would help test drive this feature. If you're feeling adventurous, go into your group where you want to manage a new project, and select "create project" from the group right sidebar. Once you create the project, you'll see that you can add Cases to it.
I will hopefully introduce this to the IMBA student council and see if they're up for it. Maybe even the internationalization team at some point.
Any feedback, thought or ideas are welcome.
