NCKU Symposium Focus on Cutting-Edge Nanotechnology

The Center for Micro/Nano Science and Technology (CMNST) of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) are staging the symposia under the financial support of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Ministry of Economic Affair (MOEA), the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), featuring leading nanotechnology experts from all over the world discussing ¡§Thin Film Metrology¡¨ and ¡§Nanoscale Measurement Technology¡¨ from 29th of September to 3rd October.

Held at the Conference Hall of the NCKU Library, during September 29 ~ 30, the theme of this symposium is focusing on ¡§thin film characterization¡¨. The courses offered include structure characterizations and mechanical properties of thin films, studies on interfaces between layers and substrate, and fabrication processes of thin films. The principles of X-Ray Reflection, Ellipsometry, TEM, Nanoindentation, and Atomic Layer Deposition will be discussed in these two-day courses.

A second symposium, on October1 ~ 3, will focus on ¡§Nanoscale Measurement Technology Forum.¡¨ The topics will include Standards for Nanotechnology, Nanotechnology in Semiconductor Industry, Nanometrology for Nanostructured Materials, Instrumentation in Nanometrology and Nanometrology in Safety, Health and Environment (SHE). Speakers for both symposia include experts from NCKU, the Institute of Standards and Technology of U.S., the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology of Japan, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center of Thailand, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea, the Motorola Laboratory of the USA and the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. Many public servants as well as attendees from industries and academia will come to NCKU to share their own experience and development in these fields with the aim to establish a potential platform for advanced nanotechnology, and industry-academia cooperation.
