NCKU IIMBA Re-Orientation
UPDATE 2 : New date - October 4
Hello All!
We are set and ready to RUMBLE with this thesis-tools session. Victor Chen has been kind enough to give us the 2nd half of SBM this Saturday (Oct. 4th, 1:30pm start). Unless of course this next typhoon kicks into gear and school gets cancelled again.
Once again, we will cover:
• Article searching tools and tips
• The main journals within our different fields
• EndNote for organization, and for citing in your report
• Thesis template (required thesis format)
• your questions
This is for local and international senior students. Please spread the word in casual conversation over the next few days.
Ie
Christine: "Hey Jojo, did you hear they re-scheduled the re-orientation session for this Saturday at 1:30pm?"
Jojo: "Yeah, it's great! I'm so excited! Are you going?"
Christing: "Of COURSE! Not only is it mandatory but it's all about tips and tools and tricks so we can write our thesis more easily. Who would be crazy enough not to go?"
Jojo: "A'aight, see you there then, bye."
If you have questions or concerns, please email me or stop me in the research room.
Best regards,
Jojo
UPDATE 1 : Postponed because of Taiphoon - read here.
Presentation and topic are here - http://www.incku.com/forum/iimba-orientation-conducting-research
Details :
Dear fellow seniors.
This Sunday, September 28, at 1:30pm to 4:30pm in the Harvard Room is the mandatory RE-Orientation for us, as mentioned in previous emails.
We will be covering the following topics:
• Essential information regarding new policies, program and thesis, and graduation information
• Research tools and EndNote
• Formatting and required THESIS TEMPLATE
Also, please make not of the below:
The computers in the research room are all being overhalled. A big change for some of you is that they will *all* have Microsoft Office 2007 installed, rather than 2003's version. We strongly suggest you install the Office 2007 version on your laptop as well if your laptop allows it (if you are not currently running a Windows XP or Vista on your computer, you can also download it from the school's server, as it is recommended you use the later versions of Windows to run Office 2007). This way groupwork can be co-ordinated with much better ease.
For those of you who are not used to Office 2007, there is a ribbon-mapping workbook available on the Student Council Resource site (http://iim.incku.com/resources). We will also be providing a helping tool during re-orientation.
You should then also download EndNote X2 (or X1 in the very least).
These downloads are explained in a document that can be found on http://iim.incku.com/resources. For those using Mac, we are looking into getting Office 2007 available for you if you do not have it already.
When you write your thesis, it is required that you use the thesis template (attached). It has been set up such that all the formatting styles have already been created, and are ready for you to apply. You must follow the formatting requirements carefully, so please utilize the Guidelines (attached). We will be showing you how to use the template and the styles function along with EndNote at re-orientation. You are welcome to bring your laptop so you can try some of it during the session, and can then raise any questions as they come up. We therefore suggest you install Office 2007 before September 28th (the date of our re-orientation).
Best regards,
Jay
